     Summery : Prof.Dr. Johan G.J.ter Haar was born on April 26, 1941 at Borne in Netherland. He obtained his Ph.D from Leiden Univ. He studied Arabic, Sanskrit & Persian. The main subjects of his research are Shiite Islam and Islamic Mysticism. In addition he is also engaged in the study of the history of Iran since the coming of Islam, and the history of the relations between Iran and the Netherlands. Since September 1997 he hold the Chair of Persian Studies in the Department of Languages and Cultures of the Islamic Middle East, University of Leiden. He has some publications and several articles, in Dutch and English, on Islamic philosophy.
